Penn State, University Park, PA, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions is less than an hour west of Kaarondinhah. Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, is less than 45 minutes east. These notable communities are connected by "The Purple Heart Highway", PA Route 45.
Be adventurous and take the scenic, unimproved Cherry Run Road north over the Seven Mountains Range to Route 45 and then head west one mile and you will find Camp Woodward where Olympic Gymnasts train. This camp is also a wonderland for those interested in skateboarding, inline skating, BMX freestyle and BMX racing. ESPN X-Games Events have been held here.
If spelunking is more to your liking, you can tour three caves in the area. Start at Woodward Cave, drive west on PA 45 for about 20 minutes and take a boat tour through Penn's Cave. Drive further west another 30 miles on the "Purple Heart Highway" through the historic town of Boalsburg, to tour the third cave, Indian Caverns, along the banks of Spruce Creek. On your way back stop in Boalsburg, home of the patriotic holiday, Memorial Day to visit the World War I Museum and other historical sites. Finish the day off by enjoying a fine dinner at the Duffy's Tavern or a gourmet delight at the Hummingbird Room in Spring Mills. We have provided additional information about these places on our links page.
Visit our local Union County Sportsmen's Club, minutes from the cabin, and see the live Wildlife Exhibit, a children's favorite. Feed the bears, bobcats, deer, turkey and other Pennsylvania animals and enjoy a nice lunch or dinner as well.
Mifflinburg and the surrounding areas offer many opportunities for antiquing. A little wine tasting at Shade Mountain Vineyards in the nearby village of Penn's Creek can also be an enjoyable stop in the afternoon.
